Listening to the Chinese Diaspora, Promoting Development | Ambassador Yu Jinsong and Delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Morocco Visit APECCM for Field Research and Community Support

On 21/10/2026, Ambassador Yu Jinsong of the Chinese Embassy in Morocco, leading the head of the embassy office and accompanying staff, visited the Association de promotion économique et culturelle des Chinois d’outre-mer au Maroc (APECCM) to conduct field research and extend support to the Chinese community, and held a symposium with Chinese community leaders to listen to the concerns of the Chinese diaspora, understand the current development of the associations, and provide guidance for the development of Chinese associations in Morocco. Zhang Yashan, President of APECCM, and several vice presidents attended the exchange.

The symposium officially began. First, President Zhang Yashan, referring to a list of issues, gave a comprehensive report on APECCM's recent overall work, objectively reviewed the practical difficulties currently facing the association, and detailed the work plan and key tasks for the next stage.

During the free exchange session, the vice presidents spoke in turn, introducing the current development of their respective businesses, candidly sharing the practical difficulties encountered in daily operations, and collectively raising the demands for which they sought the embassy's assistance and coordination.

Participants highlighted two major common difficulties: First, as the number of Moroccan tourists to China continues to grow, the current visa application processing period for China is too long and has become a prominent bottleneck for personnel exchanges; they earnestly requested the embassy to introduce optimization measures to shorten visa processing time and facilitate mutual visits between the two countries. Second, local demand for Chinese-language education continues to rise; they hope the embassy will continue to increase its support to help overseas Chinese-language education develop steadily.

Ambassador Yu responded to the concerns of the Chinese diaspora one by one and said that the embassy would certainly explore effective solutions to the problems. He then delivered a concluding speech, in which he first fully affirmed APECCM's work and, on behalf of the embassy, extended warm greetings to all Chinese compatriots in Morocco.

At the same time, the ambassador put forward three earnest hopes for the future development of the Chinese associations:

First, strictly advance the standardized development of Chinese associations and consolidate the foundation for their development. Chinese associations should develop in a collective manner, coordinate and connect with one another, unite and pool the strength of all Chinese associations in Morocco, persist in carrying out all association activities in accordance with laws and regulations, continuously strengthen risk prevention awareness, and make every effort to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the broad Chinese community. They should continuously cultivate new young forces and stimulate the internal vitality of the association; strictly standardize funding management, promote openness and transparency in association affairs and finances, and build a transparent association.

Second, give full play to the bridging and linking role of Chinese associations and serve the overall national opening-up strategy. Overseas Chinese are rooted locally and have extensive networks; their words and deeds represent the image of the Chinese people and the country. APECCM should rely on its own resource advantages, adhere to the dual-driven approach of economy, trade and culture, deepen China-Morocco economic and trade cooperation, actively carry out people-to-people and cultural exchanges, consolidate the foundation of public opinion between the two countries, continuously enhance China-Morocco people-to-people friendship, and help bilateral friendly cooperation go deeper and more substantive.

Third, cultivate deep attachment to the homeland and unite overseas Chinese hearts to support the great cause of national reunification. Leaders of Chinese associations should further enhance their sense of mission and responsibility, translate patriotic feelings into concrete actions, actively devote themselves to the cause of opposing "independence" and promoting reunification, and make every effort to support the great cause of peaceful reunification of the motherland. At the same time, they should proactively undertake the mission of cultural dissemination, start from zero and pursue long-term efforts, vigorously promote fine traditional Chinese culture, continue to expand and strengthen Chinese-language education, and let Chinese civilization take root in Morocco.

This research and support visit brought the embassy and Chinese associations closer and smoothed channels for the concerns of the Chinese community. Next, APECCM will earnestly implement the spirit of the ambassador's speech, strictly observe rules, unite the hearts of the Chinese community, give play to the strength of the Chinese community, continue to build a platform for China-Morocco economic, trade and cultural exchanges, and contribute the strength of the Chinese community to promoting generations of China-Morocco friendship.
